COMMENTARY: CREATING WIN CONDITIONS

THE NUMBER ONE WAY TO START WINNING MORE ARENAS

Hey guys Mystic here. Today I'm going to be creating a commentary which is a style of guide we regularly release on our site.

Usually our commentaries focus specifically on how to win the exact matchup being played from the perspective of the class being watched. So in this case it would be a Rep Helden playing Red Locke against Shadowplay.

But today I'm going to be doing things a little bit different. This commentary is going to focus more on a general concept and that's going to be how you can identify, work towards and execute on your win condition.

So this basically applies to pretty much any matchup being played no matter what your class is, no matter what you're facing. This is always going to be something that exists.

So step one is going to be identifying your win condition which is usually figuring out who your kill target is and what the requirements are to actually score that kill. So let's take this particular matchup as an example with me facing a Mistweaver Monk, a Shadow Priest and a Destruction Warlock.

So one by one the Mistweaver Monk is going to be playing the same matchup as the Shadow Priest. So I'm going to be playing the same matchup as the Shadow Priest and the Destruction Warlock.

So one by one the Mistweaver Monk is going to be playing the same matchup as the Shadow Priest and the Destruction Warlock. Relatively mobile and me as a rep held and not too mobile so I'm going to rule them out as a kill target immediately.

Next we'll look at the Shadow Priest. So with dispersion being quite a short cooldown they're not necessarily going to be easy for me to kill with my wings so we're just kind of ruled them out as well.

And then we've got the Destruction Warlock. Now they have a long cooldown on their personal defensive and they also have relatively poor mobility outside of their gate.

So that makes the Destruction Warlock pretty much the best kill target so we're going to pick them as the guy that we want to kill. Now once you've figured out who you want to kill you then kind of need to decide what situation you need to create in order to actually kill.

So what's the requirement to set up that kill. Now with the Mistweaver Monk having Cocoon it's going to be important for that either to not be ready or for the Mistweaver Monk to not have a Trinket and then CCing them.

The Shadow Priest has Swap and also has a Trinket of their own so either side of the Swap needs to not be ready or they need to have no Trinket and CC on them to prevent them from using Swap. And then finally the Warlock needs to not have wall ready and then has to have no Waste Appeal on themselves.

So either Coil and Infernal is down or if they have Waste Appeal themselves ideally they don't have a Trinket and then you can stun them and get them out the way. But you're going to have to force a wall.

So basically you know you want the stars to align all three of these scenarios to be intact and then at that point you've created your kill window to actually win the game. So beyond that step two is basically just working towards your win condition which is basically just playing well.

So you know you're going to go in, force CDs with your offensive, create setups etc etc basically what you're doing when you're playing threes or twos or whatever and usually this is kind of using offensives on a DPS with interrupts or CC on healers or maybe just a well-timed CC chain on a healer while the DPS is kind of low or even healer swaps are great.

Usually Holy Palms are pretty good to swap to and Mistweaver Monks can be great to swap to if you couch them or you're a class that's kind of mobile like Rogue Mage can go for a step kidney stuff like that. But yeah you basically need to work towards that win condition.

So we're going to look through this game and see exactly how that happens. Right off the bat you know just going to be going in.

I'm not going to be focusing too much on the things that I'm doing to actually win this particular matchup and the intricacies of this matchup. I'm just going to be talking about what's happening that would be happening anywhere.

So here the Monk just dispelled. I'm going to hodge the Warlock.

I'm going to use my Warlock against the Fear on the Priest and then swaps it over to the Monk. So immediately we've kind of started doing what I was saying.

Like we're playing well you know. Use my offenses with CC on the Warlock and CC on the healer trying to get them low.

We even spelllock the healer. We're not going to force too much because like I mentioned before when the Warlock has ways to peel for themselves you're not going to get much going.

So there was a coil now there's the Infernal Stun. You know there's just a few ways to really minimize our damage while this was happening.

I feel where important and maybe you could learn from. So right here because I'm playing with the Shaman he had grounding up for those initial Chaos Bolts and the grounding is killed now.

So I know I need to kick this fear. Kick this fear and now my Shaman can come out and shear the Bolt.

Usually when you're facing Destralocks this pretty much applies to anyone. You only want to kick fear if you know for a fact it's going to hit your healer and you need to stop it from landing.

Otherwise if the fear is on you you know get fear to get dispelled to kick the Bolt. You know, I'm sure you want to kick Bolt.

The only time you don't kick Bolt is in a situation like this where your healer was going to get feared and they have no way of stopping it. But yeah I just thought that was a little bit of cool information.

Anyways moving on we force Cocoon here and we get a Hex on the Monk. So we're not going to get Trinket with this Hex but we have forced Cocoon.

So what we can kind of see here is that there's now a minute and five second window where Cocoon isn't ready where we could try and force something else and then that would overlap into the next window that we would create and so on and so forth. Which is a little bit more difficult to do.

So we're going to try and force something else and then that would overlap into the next window. So we're going to try and force something else and then that would overlap into the next window.

Which going back to this whole idea of playing WoW I mean that is basically what you're doing. You force stuff that lets you force more stuff which lets you force more stuff and eventually you find this window where everything is forced and you can maybe kill.

So right there the Shadow Priest uses Trinket and so now we have a new timer a new two minute window where we want to try and force the Monk's Trinket and the Warlock's Trinket if we can and then we'll potentially be able to score a kill. But yeah again I'm not going to focus too much on this exact matter.

I'm just going to go ahead and do a quick quick look at the map and see if there's anything I can catch up with the global by global. Usually in our commentaries we're really focused on exactly the decision every decision that's being made and how to win the matchup but again I don't want to focus too much on that.

So here the Shadow Priest just used Master Spell so there's now this new window 45 second window where the Shadow Priest doesn't have Master Spell to get his healer out of CC.

Which means that potentially if we get a really good go in the next 45 seconds it might be enough to force the Monk to Trinket because there's no Master Spell. The Priest still has a minute 30 on his on his MD or sorry on his Trinket.

So still leading up into that window. Anyway just attacking the Warlock here trying to get something going.

I have wings ready in five seconds again so it's likely that with that we'll probably try to force something again try and get CC on the healer if possible. Probably won't be holding on to it too much.

We get a double kill there, I wings, hit the Priest, get a fade back onto the wall. So we're going to get the Shadow Priest back into the wall.

Trying to force more there's a coil there's a fear on the Monk and there's my Hodge on the Warlock. So cross CC with offensives trying to make something happen trying to force something.

Kick to banish okay cool that's uh there's Cocoon. So now back to this window again minute five from this point to try and force more.

Usually you're not going to get you're not going to really create windows off of the back of like starting with a cooldown that's less than two minutes. So with Cocoon being a minute and five seconds that's not normally not going to be enough to get the Warlock back into the wall.

Normally not going to be enough to then force a bunch of extra stuff and then kill before it's back.

Usually what you want to do is once you force those bigger cooldowns so if you forced wall or trinket from the healer then you've done with those two minutes you can try and do more to potentially force um potentially create that kill window.

Right there I kick the Warlock on the bolt getting some damage onto him, my Warlock drops his infernals, stealing damage. We get the confederate there's another fear on the Monk.

So we get that. monk no md for there's an md use there so 45 seconds up from now no md so potentially um if we can get cc in the next 45 seconds the healer again like i said we can maybe force his drinker um there wall accuses and finals into a stun uh i actually bait the monk to stun kind of to drink it kind of here because i stun him as my healer is stunned he wanted to follow up next uh so he trinkets for it um so this is now the first uh like major major cooldown that could lead to us winning the game monk has used this trinket so we have two minutes from this point to try and force the warlocks trinket if possible uh the warlocks wall and probably the shadow priest trinket again uh again they don't fully they probably don't like realize what's going on in terms of how we want to set up our kill uh they're just kind of playing the game they're going to be playing the game they're going to be playing the game they're going to be playing be trinketing offensively they're going to be doing what they can to win the game because they're like thinking oh we need to force our shaman their shaman's trinket to win so the monk just goes for his trinket things like that and you'll notice if you like go back and watch your vods and kind of see if you record your games and analyze what you're doing and what's happening you're going to find many situations like this where enemy teams are blowing their trinkets and using cooldowns and giving you these opportunities to create kill windows that you're not capitalizing on so right here with the monk trinketing that's immediately a window where we need to be looking to do something the warlock also trinkets the coil so now we forced both trinkets probably that's just them being offensive because they see they have pressure and they want to do stuff but they've now given us a window of opportunity and had they not done this now maybe they wouldn't get the pressure and then the game would kind of be a stalemate until later in damp but the point of the fact of the matter is like you can build towards this point just when enemy players do stuff like this and play aggressive and use trinkets offensively and you see these offensively all they're doing is opening a window for you to try and end the game sooner i believe the warlock uses his wall offensively here as well yeah so the warlock even walls offensively my shaman has a grounding coming up cool down soon so it's probably not the best wall yeah there's a grounding there so he grounds that ball not sure if you i don't think you're going to the second one but yeah that wall is kind of wasted but anyway the wall accused wall this is amazing for us two trinkets down wall accused wall all we need to do now is force the shadow priest's trinket to boost through the stage now if you're infore empower the more your drinkers get a Wars Very well we're starting to do that not your setback and we're in a position where we could potentially win the game a spell lock on the wall up there with the fear on the monk is going to maybe Lettuce force more potentially a cocoon maybe i'm not sure we'll see how low we get this guy i don't have kick ready now but i do have my small wings ready i hodged the warlock here on the chaos ball while the monk had the spell already he dispels the warlock the priest gets fed the priest trinkets now we've suddenly out of nowhere created a situation where we can actually win the game anyway we're putting in all the trinkets we've got a fullię battle over the next part create a situation where we can actually just win the game like this before even getting into dampening um again i have to reiterate the fact that while this is happening much faster than normal um usually in a matchup like this with a comp like mine um it can take much longer but with them playing aggressive and with them trying to make stuff happen too they just made this created this window for us to do something and there we force cocoon with my uh with my big wings so with cocoon out of the way we might not even need to crowd control the monk on the kill if we can do it in the next um in the next minute or so uh before the warlock has a string get back but in an ideal world you know it's possible for the monk to out heal or damage but basically with cocoon gone as well it means that even if the monk the warlock were to survive our kill attempt with the cc on the monk he would come out of the cc potentially unable to use cocoon or he won't even be able to pre cocoon to go so So that's another big deal like um druids can pre-block shawms can pre-totem monks can pre cocoon so with cocoon gone now there are very little things that they can do to stop our upcoming kill attempt the only thing ready right now the only thing they can do is spell lock so we're gonna have to do something about that either get it used or get it or like fear the pet or whatever but we're definitely mindful of the fact that a kill can come soon because i have small wings ready my own uses in 30 seconds so that's before trinkets are back so we could go then um spell lock was just used okay so right now we're actually in this stars aligned window is here it's time to probably go for the kill we could maybe wait for my own use to be ready but with spell lock being down now there's pretty much nothing they can do the only thing this team can do to prevent us from setting up this kill is the monk has to in-cap any cc that's coming onto him while he's lining and the priest has to pre-fade any cost that's he and uh causes us to be able to use the cc on him so those are the two things that they can do but again they could make mistakes and we could maybe play around them um we can play around them by locking the priest which i do believe is what happens okay there's a spell lock on the priest so right now the priest can't avoid any cc uh we can get a hex on the priest and a fear on the monk with my stun on the warlock and my small things and then my wall like bolting and that's how we can win this game um the monk could potentially like i said he cared in cap he like used paralysis i also kicked the warlock in chaos ball uh so that's even more so in our favor like there's a chance the wall it could reflect my hodge right um but i just kicked the wall up in chaos ball now so he can't do anything about that i don't know i'm not tracking paralysis so i don't know if the monk had it ready my wallock actually gates in and starts casting a fear on the monk so he fears the monk we hex the shadow priest out of the spell lock which he couldn't avoid because he was away from the pillar and i hodged the warlock and i used my small wings so this is it we've done it we've created our kill window we've executed our kill window we've executed our kill window we've created our kill window we've executed our kill window we've executed our kill window we've executed our kill window we've executed our kill window we've executed our kill window we've executed pretty much perfectly and we're probably going to reap the rewards as i have a ton of damage ready my wallet gets two bolts off we have a cap out and we win the game just like that we basically killed the warlock just as the shadow priest came out of the came out of the hex you can see here 0.6 0.4 0.3 like he was a third of a second away or 0.3 seconds away from pressing swap and saving his warlock so yeah just goes to show you the importance of finding these kill windows and capitalizing them properly like everything here was just completely perfect stars really did a line um but yeah that basically wraps up this video uh i'm gonna have a form linked in the description if you guys would be so kind to give us some feedback we're looking to kind of figure out if people are actually liking these and also if people would prefer them to be more general generalized like this or if they would prefer them to focus more on the matchup or both uh but i'm not sure if they would prefer them to be more generalized like this or if they would prefer them to focus more on the matchup or both potentially people would want a bit of both but uh yeah that's pretty much it um hope you guys enjoyed this video thanks for watching and we will see you next time
